George Haskell Rowley aged 79 years 3, months and 24 days, died at his home, 92 Saxtons River St, Bellows Falls, Sunday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 o'clock p.m. Mr. Rowley was born at So. Ticonderoga Oct. 14, 1829. While still a young man he went to St. Clair, Michigan where on Aug. 12, 1855, he was married to Miss Martha R. Downs. He was a member of the G.A.R, in which he took a great interest. He enlisted from Orwell, Vt, Aug. 29, 1862, as a private under Capt. Abell's company D, 14th Reg't. Vt. Vol. Inf and was honorably discharged July 30, 1868. He re-enlisted Sept 1, 1863, as a private of Capt. G. B. Coate's Co. E. 2d Regt, N.Y. Cav. Vol, known as Harris light cavalry, served one year and was promoted to Com. Sarg't, and was honorably discharged at Alexandria, Va, June 5, 1865 by reasons of general order No 83, war department[.]
He was a member of the Congregational church, which he always attended very regularly until deafness and ill health prevented, and we fell that no he has left us, he has gone where there will no more suffering And we say "Not my way but Thine"[.]
Since Mr. Rowley came to Bellows Falls to live about seven years ago. He has been a much respected citizen and beloved neighbor.
Funeral services were held from his late residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Pratt officiating and Thursday morning the bereaved family left on the early train for So. Ticonderoga to lay Mr. Rowley beside two daughter who had gone before and waiting to welcome him on the other side. His three sons Edson R, William D, and Harry C. Rowley and son-in-law Winslow H. Dudley. acted as bearers and Rev. Mr. Monsley officiated at the grave. Mr. Rowley leaves to mourn for him a wife and six children, Edson E. of South Londonderry, Vt; Mrs. R. J. Cook of Chesterfield, N. N. Mrs. L. W. Taft, New Haven, Vt; William D. of Bellows Falls, besides a host of friends who will miss him sadly and sympathize with the bereaved family in their great affliction. Those from out of town who attended the funeral beside the children who reside out of town were W. H. Dudley and Mrs. F. H Keeley of Crown Point and Mrs. A. G. Dudley of Shoreham Vt."

Mrs. W. H. Dudley was called to Bellows Falls, Vt, Oct. 12th, on account of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. Martha E. Rowley. Mrs. Rowley passed away the 11th, having six children -- three boys and three girls, besides a number of grandchildren and host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Her son W. D. Rowley is a very sick man in the Rockingham hospital at Bellows Falls, so ill he could not be told that his dear mother had passed on. Mrs. Rowley formerly lived in Crown Point, where she still has many friends who will be saddened to hear of her death. W. H. Dudley and daughter Martha, Miss Estella Dudley and Mrs. Kate Kelly went to Bellows Falls Thursday to attend the funeral, which was held at Mrs. Rawley's (sic) home, and interment was at Chesterfield, N.H, in part of the lot belonging to her daughter, Mrs. Gertie Cook."
