Nathaniel S. Rowley was born at Colchester, New London county, Conn 19 December 1803. He removed with his parents to western New York, where he lived for many years, and was married December 13, 1829, to Miss Hannah Carpenter. He with his wife came to Kansas in 1876, where he has since resided; loved and respected by all who knew him. In his long and painful illness he was patient and cheerful to the last. His funeral occurred Friday and he was interred in the Newbury cemetery."

Hannah Carpenter was born in Western Worcester county, Mass, Nov. 27, 1808. She was married to Nathaniel S. Rowley Dec. 13, 1829 at Franklinville, Catteraugus county, N.Y. To them were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy, and six are still living. Her husband, although nearly ninety years of age, attended the funeral services at the Paxico cemetery on July 11th, when she was buried. Rev. J.F. Dennis of Alma conducting the service and preaching an able discourse. Their home was with their son G. S. Rowley. Her long and useful life drew peacefully to a close, and her memory will be sacred to her friends for her good deeds."
