Edgar O. Mantle, widely known as the best maker of maple syrup in this section, died Monday at his home at Middle Branch from shock. He was the eldest son of the late Howard Mantle and was born and always lived on the farm where he died. Nearly 50 years ago he married Emirante Blanchard, who died 12 years ago. He is survived by a brother, Jesse(?), of Antwerp, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Mckenea/McKenna(spelling?) of Montana. A brother, William, died 10 years ago. He is survived by three children: Mrs. Abbie Monier, of Syracuse, Marian and Arthur, of Harrisville, and a grand-daughter, Marion Mantle. He was a member of the local lodge of Odd Fellows. For several years he was town assessor of Diana. The funeral services were held Wednesday.
