(Tully) Tully Independent, 1968 Oct. 17; "Services were held Monday for Lyndon Scammell, 56, who died unexpectedly at his home in LaFayette October 11.
Mr. Scammell was a lifetime resident of LaFayette and had been an Onondaga County Deputy Sheriff for the past 15 years. He was the son of Winfield A. Scammell, justice of the peace of LaFayette. He was a graduate of LaFayette Central School and the Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. Prior to entering the armed forces during World War II, he was actively engaged in funeral service.
Mr. Scammell was a member of the Columbian Presbyterian Church in LaFayette, Tully Masonic Lodge No. 896, and the Tully American Legion Post.
In 1927 and 1928 he was a member of the championship Southern League Baseball team. In later years he became an active fisherman.
Besides his father, Mr. Scammell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janice Squire Scammell; two sons, Barry E. of Valley Stream, L.I. and Pfc. Gregory of Fort Gordon, GA; a sister, Mrs. Clifford Hall of LaFayette; a grandson, Mark G. Scammell, and a niece and nephew.
The funeral service was held at the Hall Funeral Home in LaFayette by the Rev. David E. Lewis, pastor of the Columbian Presbyterian Church.
Bearers were Willard Scammell, Arthur Scammell, Clark Squire, Wesley Hall, Bruce Redhead and Blanchard Crysler. Six honorary bearers were in attendance from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department.
A special honor guard of 30 Sheriffs from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department were present at the funeral."
