"A 27-year-old Lafayette man died last night of injuries suffered when a wind gust blew him off the rear of a moving pick-up truck in the Jamesville-Apulia rd. early yesterday afternoon, Edward B. Rowley, of JID 2 Lafayette; died in Grouse- Irving Hospital about 8 p. m. According to state police he suffered brain injury and skull fracture / Held Mattress /Trooper John Spanbauer said Rowley was apparently on a moving expedition and holding a mattress and refrigerators in the rear of the truck, A gust of wind caught the mattress, and in trying to save it, he toppled off the vehicle, striking the back of his head against the pavement, according to the trooper ...
The accident occurred about 1.25 p. m. Rowley was examined at the scene by Dr. William Padgett of Tully and then transported to the hospital, The trooper said the truck was operated by Cornelius W. Flaherty, 31, of Lafayette .RD 2, Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Rowley; two brothers, John of Ithaca and George of Albany; two sisters, Miss Genessa Rowley of Albany and Mrs. Mabel Brakefield of New York city, Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hartwell Funeral Home, Tully, Friends may call today and Grimm."
