"Lawrence Powers died June 6, 1913 at his Gainesville home following a stroke. He was born September 7, 1848 in Manchester, England coming to America with his parents at an early age.
He enlisted February 9, 1861 from Angelica in the 1st NY Dragoons, Company B. He was wounded August 10, 1864 at Newton, Va. and was discharged June 28, 1865 at Elmira. He appears on the Wyoming County Veteran list.
He married Frances Leffingwell on October 9, 1867, who survives him together with ten children; 24 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Clooney of Java and Ella Powers of Castile. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church conducted by Rev. G. E. Morse and Rev. W. H. Smith with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville. Surviving children are: Mrs. John Wallace, Mrs. Isaac Stamp, Edward all of Castile, Mrs. H. B. McColl of Lamont, Fred of Texas, Wilford L. of Buffalo, Mrs. Floyd Barnard of West Valley, George A. of Gainesville, Mrs. Earl Burlingame of Warsaw, Charles J. of Falconer."

Frances T. Powers of 83 Liberty Street, widow of Lawrence Powers, died at her home on Wednesday, August 4. She was born in Gainseville, March 20, 1852 and her parents were John and Hulda Knapp Leffingwell. On October 9, 1867 she married Mr. Powers, who died June 6, 1913. Surviving Mrs. Powers are eight children, Mrs. John Wallace of Pike, Mrs. Hugh McCall of Lament, Edward Powers of Union Springs, Fredericik (sic) Powers of Iowa, Wilford Powers of Tonawanda, Mrs. Floyd Barnard of Arcade, Mrs. Earl Burlingame of Warsaw, and Charles Powers of Union Springs; twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-six great great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Glenn Lathrop of Pike. She was a member of the South Warsaw W.C.T.U, the S.O.V. Auxiliary, the Methodist Church and the Methodist Missionary Society. The Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 6th at 2:30 P.M, at the Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. J.W. Sanderson of the Methodist church officiating. The burial will be in Gainesville."
