Janet S. (Hepler) Eckard, 73, of Hermitage, died unexpectedly at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Clarion Hospital. Born January 12, 1939, in New Bethlehem, she was the daughter of Guy and Irene Anthony Hepler. Mrs. Eckard attended Redbank Valley School District. She married John Eckard on April 4, 1956. He survives. Mrs. Eckard was a homemaker, and she enjoyed mowing her lawn and taking care of her family. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Julie Porterfield and her husband, Michael, of Hermitage; two sons, Roger Eckard and his wife, Patricia, of Transfer, and Larry Eckard and his companion, Marna Beardsley, of Mercer; two grandchildren, Shane Eckard of Transfer and Jaclyn Lewis of Hermitage; four sisters, Jewel Bartley, and Twila Edmonds and her husband, Rubin, all of New Bethlehem, and Joanne Greenawalt and Dorothy McNaughton, both of Rimersburg; and two brothers, Merle Hepler and Guy Hepler Jr, both of New Bethlehem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Brocious and Kathy Hepler; and a brother, Calvin Hepler. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, at the John Flynn Funeral Home and Crematory in Hermitage with the Rev. August Hurst, pastor of Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Lackawannock Township, officiating. Interment was in Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville."
