William Knapp, born 5 JAN 1759, Greenwich, Fairfield, CT, and died OCT/NOV 1815, married Olive Rowley, 1776/1784, Canaan, Columbia, NY. William Knapp grew up in Dutchess County NY, but settled in Canaan, Columbia County, NY, where many branches of Rowleys lived. He married Olive Rowley there about 1784. Military: William was a minuteman in the American Revolution, in New York, and he was in the battle of Saratoga. Church membership: Congregational Church, New Canaan, NY. William moved to Orwell, Addison County, Vermont with his family about 1787-1792, where he owned a blacksmith shop. After War of 1812, William changed fortunes in Vermont for the worse, he took his family and moved to Warsaw, NY (following his grown children) about 1808-1815. He became a member of the Methodist Church in Warsaw, NY. Sources differ about when he died, but is most likely 22 NOV 1815 in Warsaw, NY.

Wife:

Olive ROWLEY, almost certainly the daughter of Daniel Rowley and second wife Jemima Parsons, was born 1760s estimate, and died 1 OCT 1834, Warsaw, Wyoming, NY. Olive was of the right age and living in Canaan, NY at the right time to meet and get married to William Knapp, see the Knapp link above for more detail. Rowley records do indicate Olive's brothers lived next door to this William Knapp in Orwell Vermont. Some records give her death date as Sept 31 or Oct 1, 1843. Some records give her middle name as "Amoball." This appears to be a mix-up with her daughter Jemima's married name.
