George Parrot, who owned this postcard collection, was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Because his ancestors came from Audincourt France, and Bern Switzerland, he spoke fluent French at home, and was a French school teacher, here is some information on his life and family members who wrote these cards:
My dad is George’s grandson, and this is what he remembers: “Mom [Ruth Parrot Rowley] told me they spoke French at home while she was growing up. but later she forgot most of it when she went to college at Ohio State. The house they had in Columbus was close to Ohio State University. Grandpa Parrot purchased the house as a kit from Sears and Roebuck. He and his sons put the kit together. Later Uncle George bought a lumber yard and sold wood for a living. I visited Ohio State U. In about 1995 (+/- 1 year) and walked over to see the house. Dad and mom told me about all the highlights to see on compass while I was there e.g. Dad told me where to find the school of engineering where he learned his trade.”
“Beulah took over the role as mother of the family after mom’s birth mom died, so mom [Ruth Parrot Rowley] told me she often thought of Beulah as her mom. Thank you so much for doing this project for me. The post cards all have stories behind them. One time Grandpa Parrot took a road trip across the U.S. on the first intercontinental highway that ran coast to coast, Route 20.” — Jerry Rowley, April 19. 2019
