McClure, son of James and Orpha Otis McClure, died at his home in Warsaw last evening after an illness of some weeks from grip and the infirmities of age, in his 81 year. Born at Jordan, N.Y, and had been a resident of Warsaw since 1865. Educated in the schools of Jordan and graduated from Jordan Collegiate institute in June, 1844. In 1850 he commenced the profession of civil engineering and was first engaged on the Rochester & Syracuse, later on the Erie, and from 1852 to 1861 on the Erie Canal work, living at Lockport for 7 years from 1854. On coming to Warsaw Mr. McClure engaged in the drug business and was later in the insurance business down to April 1906, during all of which time he found work in his profession. He was constructing engineer of the Warsaw Water Works Company and its secretary and superintendent for 8 years. Assistant engineer on the Rochester & State Line railroad. Clerk of the village of Warsaw 1869-1878, secretary of Warsaw Cemetery Assn. 1878-1902 & part of the time its superintendent, Secretary Wyoming Co. Agricultural Society 1872-1896, chief engineer of fire dept. 1875 & 1874. Joined the National Guard at Syracuse with the Citizens' corps in 1858 & was continuously connected with the service until he became colonel of the 75th Reg. N.G.S.N.Y. In 1863, relinquishing his command on moving away from the district. On April 20, 1854 he married Huldah Bingham of Warsaw, who died in 1905. 1 son, Frederic, died May 9, 1900, and a daughter, Miss Ida McClure of this village, survives. While at Lockport he joined Lockport Lodge #73, F. & A.M, also Chapter and Commandery, and there has kept active his Masonic connections. For 25 years he acted as local correspondent for the Buffalo Courier and his daughter continues the work. Funeral services held at Trinity Church of which he has been a vestryman many years. His daughter and a sister, Miss Susan McClure of Jordan, are the surviving relatives. Burial Warsaw Cemetery. ."
