— Henry Lee “Ol Hank” Rowley, 97, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kan.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with his grandson, the Rev. Charles Rowley, presiding. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home of Liberal, Kan.
Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. today with the family present to receive friends from 2 to 3:30 today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Cumbernauld Village in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS, 67901.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1912, at Kiowa, the son of Henry Bishop and Bettie Lee (Gill) Rowley.
He was a 1930 Kiowa High School graduate and attended two years of college, first at Texas Tech and then at Oklahoma State Universities.
On April 3, 1937, he married Mildred Roberson at McAlester. She died on June 4, 2005. He had owned a grocery store in Kiowa. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, in the Transportation Department, for 19 1/2 years, retiring on Jan. 19, 1977.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rotary International and the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline retirees. He had been a resident of Liberal since 1957, and moved to Winfield in 2006.
He enjoyed playing tennis and taking photographs of his many friends in Liberal and the area. In 2000, the City of Liberal dedicated the tennis courts at Blue Bonnet Park as the “Ole Hank Rowley Tennis Complex”. He played piano for the Moonlighter Band and was marshall for the Pancake Day Parade.
Survivors include one son, Gordon Rowley and wife, Kathy, of Winfield, Kan; one daughter, Gail Davis and husband, Roger, of Tulsa; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters and six brothers. ."
