McCurdy, 88, of Natrona Heights, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. McCurdy had been ill for the past two months. Born Aug. 23, 1924, in Kittanning, Armstrong County, he was a son of the late Wilbert H. and Elizabeth (Nauman) McCurdy. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Natrona Heights. He graduated from Tarentum High School in 1944, and resided in Natrona Heights for most of his life. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was employed as a lab technician by General Electric, Leechburg, where he worked for 27 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army in the Pacific Theater in the Solomon and Philippine islands, where he received a Purple Heart. He also was a member of Natrona Heights VFW and Natrona American Legion. Mr. McCurdy enjoyed doing yard work, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Natrona Heights, but he especially enjoyed being with his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Gayle B. (Burtner) McCurdy; two sons, Larry E. (Virginia) McCurdy, of South Park, and Jeffrey L. (Janet) McCurdy, of Natrona Heights; a daughter, Bonnie (Alan) Fisher, of Natrona Heights; seven grandchildren, Pamela (James) Babst, of Philadelphia, Karen (Brian) Cerra, of North Huntingdon, Melissa McCurdy, of Brackenridge, Brian (Morgan) McCurdy, of Natrona Heights, Scott (Sarah) Fisher, of Washington, Ind, Thomas Fisher, of Natrona Heights, and Sara Beth Fisher, of Natrona Heights; six great-grandchildren, Kole, Zachary, John, Jacob, Korydon and Hunter; four special children, Angela, Mark, Angela and Joey; and two sisters, Wilda Richey and Dorothy Bollinger, both of Natrona Heights. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Archie and Robert "Mac" McCurdy, and two infant brothers. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC, Tenth Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Faith Lutheran Church, Natrona Heights, by the Rev. Barbara A. Ravenstahl, his pastor. Private burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Family suggests contributions to Good Samaritan Hospice of Concordia, 148 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023."
