CARTHAGE-- Earl L. Mantle, 58, died unexpectedly at his home at 4:30 p.m,. Tuesday.
Mr. Mantle, a machinist at Beaverrite, Beaver falls, complained of not being able to breathe while on the job. He was brought to his home where he died just before entering the house.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Bossuot funeral home with Rev. Stanley E. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Antwerp Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home...There will be a Rebekah prayer service Friday...
Surviving besides his wide, Mrs. Marcelina S. Mantle, are five sons, Staff Sgt. John Mantle, in Vietnam; Neil with U.S. navy Intelligence in Japan, and William, Stephen and Earl, jr. all at home; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Marjorie) Farmer, Dexter, and Mrs. Bruce (Bonnie) Zeigler, Syracuse; a brother, Robert, Adams Cove, a drive for the Watertown Daily Times; a sister, Mrs. Howard (Helen) Gilligan, Greenville, R.I, and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Mantle was born in Antwerp Nov. 29, 1908, a son of Jasper and Josephine Cochrain Mantle. He attended schools in Antwerp and West Carthage. He married Miss Marceline Shampine Aug. 18, 1927, at the home of her parents in Carthage.
During World War II, Mr. Mantle worked at the government arsenal at Watervliet as an instructor of machine work. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic institute night school while there, taking courses in mathematics.
After the war, Mr. Mantle worked for Bagley & Sewall in Watertown; Rderman Machine, Carthage, and Carbola Chemical company in Natural Bridge before coming to work at Beaverrite two years ago.
Mr. Mantle was very active in scouting and was a manager of Troop 252."
