Pauline "Polly" Evelyn Knowles of Lake Havasu City, Ariz, died on March 11, 2015.
Polly was born Jan. 6, 1922, to Wayne and Carrie Wagner in Joseph, Ore, eventually moving to Walla Walla. After high school she attended EOC for a year before going to work in Walla Walla. There she met Kenneth W. Knowles, who was attending Whitman College, and they became engaged and married in June 1943. Ken accepted a position in California as a chemist with General Petroleum, later known as Mobile Oil, and they lived in Torrance, Calif, until 1955. All three children Wayne, Susan and Nancy were born in Torrance.
In 1955 they moved their family back to Walla Walla to allow Ken to farm with his parents, Fred and Olgie Knowles, while Polly stayed at home raising the children. She loved being a housewife and kept busy knitting and sewing for her family. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her lemon meringue pies. She loved to read, play the piano, work crossword puzzles and play Scrabble.
Polly and Ken were active with their family in their church and if there were college students attending services, they often brought them home for Sunday dinner. She was also active in the neighborhood garden club and Farm Bureau.
Polly and Ken loved to travel and meet new people, and they were fortunate to be able to travel extensively in the '60s-'80s, Hong Kong being one of their favorites. In all they were able to visit 27 countries.
After Ken's death in 1988, Polly lived alone in her Valley Chapel Road home until 2002, when she married Clement Hull from Yuma, Ariz. They relocated to Arizona in 2007.
Much to the heartache of her family, Polly developed Alzheimer's and eventually moved into an assisted living home. Until she lost the ability to verbally communicate she retained her wonderful sense of humor and loved having visitors. She loved Jesus and read her Bible daily as long as she was able. Clem passed away in 2013.
Polly is survived by her three children, K. Wayne Knowles (Linda Larsen) of Guntersville, Ala, Susan C. McColaugh (Jack) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz, Nancy A. Schisler (Jack) of Yuma, Ariz; a brother, Robert Wagner in Colorado; two granddaughters, Kay Lynn Monteville (Marshall), stationed in Singapore and their children Josh and Samantha; and Carrie Reed (Ed) of Guntersville, Ala, and their children Jessica, Danielle Dupree (John) and Courtney.
A memorial service will be held April 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 3170 Peppers Bridge Road, Walla Walla."
