Gifford, late of Brooklyn, died in this city yesterday, in her seventy-fifth year. Mrs. Gifford was born in Warsaw, N.Y, May 27, 1825, and passed her girlhood days in Wyoming County. During the first years of her married life she resided in Logansport, Ind. At the beginning of the Civil War he husband was mustered into the United States army, serving until the close of the rebellion. For two years of this time, Mrs. Gifford was his companion, going from battlefield to battlefield, as duty called. In 1865 they went to Brooklyn, remaining there until major Gifford's death in October, 1897. Since that time she has resided in this city with her brother, Dr. B. H. Hovey. Bringing (?) a letter from Plymouth Church, Brooklyn, she united with the First Methodist Episcopal Church of this city, of which she has been a faithful member. Mrs. Gifford died of pneumonia, after a brief illness, leaving no children. The surviving relatives are her brothers, Dr. B. H. Hovey and Spencer Hovey. of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Blackmar, of Le Roy. The funeral services will be held at the residence of Dr. Hovey, No. 34 North Fitzhugh street, tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The burial will be private."
