Funeral services for Orson S. Rowley, 89, civil war veteran and oldest resident of the town of Fabius, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at his home on the Fabius-Pompey Center-Manlius road. He died on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Rowley was one of 13 boys in Keeney Settlement school who enlisted with their teacher, Jerome Woodruff, on October 8, 1961, in Company G, 61st New York Volunteer infantry, and served under January 5, 1865. He fought under Col. Nelson A. Miles, later commander in chief of the United States armies, and was wounded three times.
He married Miss Cornelia Cornue in 1866 and purchased a farm south of Pompey. They resided there until 1911. Mrs. Rowley died five years ago. He was active up to the time of this death and made a Memorial day address last May. He is survived by a son, Giles Rowley; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren."

"Orson Rowley Rites Will Be Tomorrow:," (Syracuse) Syracuse Journal, 1930 Apr. 17, p. 3; "The funeral of Orson S. Rowley, oldest resident of the town of Fabius and a veteran of the Civil War, who died Tuesday night at his home on the Fabius-Pompey Center-Manlius rd, will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home. Mr. Rowley was 89 years old.
He was active up to the time of his death and made a Memorial address last May. Mr. Rowley, a member of Company G, Sixty-first New York Volunteer Infantry, fought during the Civil War under Col. Nelson A. Miles, later commander-in-chief of the United States armies. He enlisted Oct. 8, 1861, with his teacher, Jerome Woodruff, and 12 other school mates of the Keeney Settlement School.
In the spring of 1866 he married Miss Cornelia Cornue and purchased a farm south of Pompey, where the couple resided until 191.
Mrs. Rowley died five years ago. He leaves a son, Giles Rowley; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren."

He is survived by one son, Giles Rowley. For a number of years Mr. Rowley took keen interest in our Memorial Day services and only last year recited a poem written on the battlefield.
Major Hunt and a number of World War veterans were in attendance."
