Jerome B. Cooper of Grand Rapids, Mich, died suddenly December 24 while attending Christmas eve services at an Episcopal church in Grand Rapids. He was the brother of the late George W. Cooper of this city, who died the same date two years ago.
One of the original six Cooper brothers who founded a nationally known chain of wallpaper stores bearing their name, Mr. Cooper was active in that business in Grand Rapids at the time of his death. He was well known in Schenectady and attended Hobart and Union Colleges and having been graduated from Albany Law School.
After practicing law at Watertown for several years and serving two terms as district attorney for Jefferson county, he retired from the law business and moved to Grand Rapids, where he owned and operated one of the Cooper wallpaper stores.
Mr. Cooper was born in Theresa, N.Y, the son of the late Jerome and Emma Cooper. His family was known in northern New York as among the early French and English settlers. He was a member of several Masonic bodies, Sons of Union Veterans, church and other fraternal organizations.
Survivors are his wife, the former Korleen Cleveland of Watertown; one son, Stephen C. Cooper; One grandchild; four brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be held Tuesday in Grand Rapids. Burial will be in Grand Rapids."
