Eliza Jennet (Porter) Rowley (1814 - 1847)

"ELIZA, wife of Newel Rowley, died in Fabius, Onondaga Co., Dec. 5, 1847, in the 35th year of her age.
Sister Rowley became the subject of renewing grace, in 1831. Soon after, she reunited with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she remained a worthy member, until called to the reward of the faithful.
During the brief period of her illness, her sufferings were extreme, and yet they were borne with Christian longitude and patience. When spoken to in regard to her sufferings, she would exclaim, "O! they are not be compared with the agony of my Saviour has endured for me." Although she had been a consistent and zealous Christian, following the commandments of God with cheerfulness, instructing her children upon the subject of religion, and earnestly commending them to God in prayer. taking care to keep up religious worship in the family during the absence of her husband, yet, upon her death-bed, she expressed the deepest regret that she done so little in the cause of the blessed Redeemer, exhorting all that came to her bedside to faithfulness, saying, 'you cannot do too much for God.'
May her dying exhortations and entreaties long live in the memories of her friends and neighbors to enforce the pastoral text selected by herself. 'Be ye therefor ready also; for the Son of man cometh at an hour when yo think not.' G. Colgrove"
