"HATHWAY-AYERS
Quiet wedding at Home of Bride on William Street.
The wedding of Marguerite G. Ayers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Ayers of 223(?) William street, to Neil F. Hathway, son of James O. Hathway of 113 Park avenue, took place this afternoon at 4 at the home of the bride's parents. Owing to the sudden death Tuesday of Mrs. Helen M. Hathway, the mother of the bridegroom, the wedding was a very quiet one and was attended only by the immediate families. Plans had been made for a more elaborate wedding, attended by upwards of 50 guests, but the serious illness and death of Mrs. Hathway caused an abandonment of these arrangements.
The ceremony was performed by Dr. Darwin F. Pickard, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
The bride and bridegroom were unattended.
The wedding tour which had been planned has been abandoned. Mr. and Mrs. Hathway will go to S_erville near Gouverneor Sunday or Monday. They have been leased a furnished home there for a few months and will reside there during the time Mr. Hathway is connected with a good __ construction job in that section, where he is employed as a civil engineer.
The bride was graduated from St. Lawrence university with the class of 1911 and was awarded degree of A.B. The year following her graduation she taught in the Plattsburg High school and for the past two years has been an instructor in English at the Watertown High School. Her resignation from the faculty of the local school is greatly regretted by the board of education, her associate teachers and all the pupils whom she has instructed there. Miss Ayers was regarded as a most capable teacher.
Mr. Hathway is an assistant inspector connected with the New York state highway department and during the coming summer will be stationed in Somerville. He is a graduate of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy and is a civil engineer. Mr. Hathway is well known in this city and has a large number of friends."
