Charles H. Rowley Suddenly Leaves - Whereabouts Uknown

Unable to meet some obligations, which came due on the first of the year, Charles H. Rowley, of Fabius, who for some time has been engaged in the canning business there, strangely disappeared on the afternoon of December 30th and has not since been heard from. The local police have been furnished with a description of the missing man and asked to make a search for him. He lost some money in the canning business, it is said, and became discouraged when he realized that he would be unable to pay his debts January 1. He did not say anything to his family, but slipped quietly away. A diligent search has been made for him, but without avail. A short time ago a number of the missing man's friends got together and paid up his bills and now they are anxious that he return to his family. He is of dark complexion, with black hair, dark eyes and dark mustache."

Relatives and Friends Join in the Merry Making.
The fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Rowley was celebrated at their home, Pleasant View Farm, Fabius, Monday afternoon, January 31.
They were married at Fabius January 31, 1866. Mr. Rowley is a veteran of the Civil War, having served in company G-61-N.Y. V. from October 1861 to January 1865.
To them were born three children, Giles O., of Fabius, Charles, deceased and Mrs. Blanche Negus of Syracuse(.) Mr. and Mrs. Rowley have four grandchildren. Eva I., Ina M., Hugh E. and Glen H. Negus of Syracuse.
About thirty neighbors and relatives called to help Mr. and Mrs. Rowley celebrate the day leaving many remembrances and good wishes.

Rowley, Mr. and Mrs. Byer Rowley and daughter, Emily; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nason, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Schoonmaker, Mr. and Mrs. L. Cornue, Mr. and Mrs. R. Case and children, Ceylon and Greta, George Dowd, Elbert Nason, William Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Fellows, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Swift, Mr. and Mrs. P.T. Conway, Miss Susan Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. William Virgil, Mr. and Mrs. William Barnes."

"Rowley Reunion
On June 30, 1921 about seventy members of the Rowley family met at the Newell Rowley homestead, now known as the Onondaga Orchard Farm.
This(?) day was perfect and each one seemed to enjoy it all. A bountiful dinner was served at noon as each family more than did their share towards furnishing
Ice cream and lemonade were also passed.
Relatives from Fabius, Tully, Preble, Pompey, Syracuse, Cortland, Kansas and Idaho.
Seth Rowley, 81 years of age, of Prescott, Kansas gave a few fine recitations which all enjoyed.
Here's hoping we meet again in 1922."

Descendents of the Pilgrims Meet at Fabius
"Sixty members of the Rowley family attended the reunion June 30th at the old Newel Rowley farm, near Fabius. The Rowleys are of Pilgrim descent, their forefathers having come to America in the Mayflower.
Daniel Rowley, who when 11 years of age, was stricken with blindness, died in 1849, nearly 86 years of age. The sons of Daniel and Sarah Rowley were Daniel Jr., Levi, Seth, Samuel and Newel. The descendents of Daniel, Jr. present at the reunion were a grandson, Daniel Rowley with his wife, Ethel and their daughters Delilah and Viola; also a granddaughter, Mary Rowley. Both Daniel and Mary Rowley were children of Daniel 3rd. Mrs. and Mrs. Erving Skeele of Apulia were also present with their children, Duane, Winslow, Carl and Edna. Mrs. Skeele is also a daughter of Daniel, 3rd. Harvey, Hiram, and Anson were sons of Daniel Rowley, Jr., all of whom have passed away.
There were also present Mrs. Elizabeth Rowley, widow of Harvey Rowley, accompanied by a grandson, Herman Crandall of Fabius with his wife Anna and daughters Helen, Marjorie and Dorris. A granddaughters, Mrs. Florence May of Cortland, with her children Douglass, William Florence and Francis.
Mrs. Lettie Rowley, widow of Hiram Rowley of Cortland; Mrs. Hattie Rowley, widow of Anson Rowley of Fabius; Bernard Rowley, son of Anson and Hattie Rowley, and Grace, his wife.
Descendents of Levi Rowley were Grover Rowley, son of John and Clara Rowley with his wife Edith and their children Mabel, Johnessia and John. Grover Rowley is a grandson of Levi Rowley: Martin Briggs also a grandson and a son of Polley Rowley Briggs.
Descendents of Seth Rowley were a son, Seth Rowley, Jr., of Prescott, Kansas and Mrs. Emma E. Urquart, granddaughter of Seth Rowley, Sr., and daughter of Charles and Janette Phillips Rowley.
Two sons and a daughter of Samuel Rowley, Orsen Rowley and wife, Cornelia and their sons Giles of Fabius; Frank Rowley and wife Lydia of Fabius. Byer, a son of Frank Rowley, and wife Myrtle, with their four daughters Eunice, Esther, Erma and Emily, and a daughter, Mrs. Electa Doud of Preble accompanied by her son, Jerome and wife Verda.
A grandson of Samuel Rowley, Elbert Nason of Fabius, son of Charles and Sarah Rowley Nason.
Two great-granddaughters of Newell Rowley, Lora and Mary of Fabius, daughters of E.H. Rowley. Mrs. Jennie Woodford, daughter of Mrs. Jennie Rowley Robinson, with her children Ethel Thomas, Helen and Ruth. Henry Ten Eyck, a grandson of Newel Rowley, son of Edward and Mary Rowley TenEyck, with his wife and daughter Mary: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Knapp with their children Mildred, Donald and Arthur. Mrs. Maude Rowley Knapp is a grand-daughter of Newel Rowley.
The oldest person present was Mrs. Elizabeth Rowley, of Fabius, 84 years of age. The oldest man present was Seth Rowley of Prescott, Kansas, hale and hearty at age of 81. He attributes his good health and strength to his temperate habits. He was born in Fabius and left there when only five years of age, with his parents, Seth and Sarah Rowley, when there were no railroads as far west as Chicago. This is the first visit he has made to the land of his birth since leaving it 76 years ago.
The one who came the greatest distance to attend the reunion was Mrs.Emma Urquhart of Moscow, Idaho. She was also born in Fabius but has lived in the West since she was six years old.
Greetings were wired to the reunion by J.C. Rowley and family and his mother, Mrs. Janette Rowley Townsend from Helena, Montana. J. C. Rowley is a son of Charles Rowley and a grandson of Seth Rowley, Sr. Greetings were also sent by Mrs. Lottie Jones by letter. Mrs. Jones is a grandaughter of Seth Rowley, Sr., and lives at Spencer, Iowa.
All enjoyed a social time, a bountiful repast and a good program.
A portion of the history of the Rowley family from the landing of the Mayflower to the present was read by Miss Eunice Rowley. Historical remarks were given by Orson Rowley of Fabius, followed by an interesting speech by Seth Rowley, interspersed with poems of his own composition, closing with this verse:
Of all the gifts in Nature's realm,
My worthy friends are dearest;
And should then need a friend indeed,
To them let me be nearest."

"Rowley Reunion
The second reunion of the Rowley family was held September 15th at the old Rowley homestead, Pleasant Hill. About thirty were present, among them a stranger cousin, Ernest Marsh and wife of Canton, Ohio.
The weather being cool, tables were spread indoors and the guests partook of a feast of good things. It was voted to hold a reunion each year and O.S. Rowley chosen president.
The little gatherings call members of the family together and it is hoped all will respond to further the acquaintance of relatives from a distance."
