"Obituary for Helen V. Rodine
Funeral services for Helen V. Rodine, 91, Aberdeen, SD will be 2:00pm, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., with Chaplain Deb Barnett officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park in Aberdeen. Helen died after a long and happy life on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
Helen V. Rodine was born in Cresbard on May 21, 1924 to Fred and Anna (Anderson) Fedderson. After graduating high school, she moved and worked in Sioux City, Iowa before moving to Aberdeen where she graduated from the St. Lukes Nursing program in 1946. Helen met a young doctor named John Rodine while she was in training and they were married April 10, 1948 in Minneapolis. They lived and started their family in Aberdeen.
Helen was a warm, honest, compassionate person. She cherished summers at Pickerel Lake and winters in California, but most of all, her family and friends. Helen was very active with many organizations including the American Heart Association, Chapter AX PEO, SD Medical Association Auxilliary, Pickerel Lake Sunday School, Meals on Wheels, hospice volunteer, and bridge and book clubs. Helen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
She was passionate about helping others, baking, walking, crossword puzzles, entertaining, traveling the world with John and family vacations. She was a loyal friend and made many happy memories for her children and grandchildren. She instilled a caring moral compass that will be shared by future generations.
Grateful to have shared her life are her daughters: Kristi (Keith) Hainy, Sonja Rodine, and Karla Rodine Grayman; grandchildren: Allison Resner Checco, John Resner, Dane Grayman and Britta Grayman: great-grandchilren Saunie and Celia Checco; and sisters LouAnn (Dan) Kelly and Lois Hill.
Preceding Helen in death was her husband, parents, and brother-in-law Dr. James Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Presentation College Nursing Scholorship or a charity of your choice."
