John Eather Garner (1844 - 1910)
"In the Shadow
Death came at an early hour this morning to John Ethel Garner, one of the best known pioneer residents of this city. After an illness of three weeks Mr. Garner passed away at his home on East Base Line. The deceased was born in Illinois, 66 years ago. He came to this section 59 years ago, and had lived on the Garner ranch where he died for a period of 19 years. He was a man of pronounced religious scruples, big hearted, and always thoughtful of others. He is survived by a widow and two children, the latter being Mrs. Lydia Garner Briggs and George Garner. The funeral will occur tomorrow, but whether from the residence of from the chapel of Barton & Shaw, who have charge of arrangements, will be definitely decided today. His family and Elder Thomas E. Robinson of Los Angeles were with him when the final summons came."
