Jacob Mantle (1837 - 1904)


"Jacob Mantle
Jacob Mantle was born in Harrisville, Lewis.Co., Sept. 12, 1837, and lived there until he grew to manhood. He was married to Amanda E. Mobbs February 27, 1859 and came to Sandy Creek five years later where he lived until death. He commenced work in the tannery in 1876 and labored there until it burned. He then began work in the plate factory September 18, 1884 and worked until he was obliged to resign last fall. He leaves a wife, two sons, three daughter and three brothers to mourn his loss. Howard and Nelson Mantle of Harrisville, N.Y. and Charles mantle of Adams, N.Y. The children are, George Mantle, Lacona; Jennie V. Walch, Sandy Creek; Charles J. Mantle, New York City; Nellie M.Thompson, Pinevile; Maude B. LaMar, Sandy Creek. The funeral was held at the family home on Main street, Thursday afternoon, Rev. A.G. Newberry officiating."

"Mrs. Amanda E. Mantle
Mrs. Amanda E. Mantle, wife of Jacob Mantle, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Stanton in Aikin, N.Y. on February 19.
Mrs. Mantle was born in Sandy Creek September 7, 1842 and was married to Jacob Mantle February 27, 1859. Most of her life was spent in this town where Mr. Mantle died five years ago. She is survived by five children: George, of Kirkville; Mrs. E. W. Walch, Sandy Creek; Mrs. John Thompson, Pulaski; Charles, of Newark, N.J. and Mrs. David Stanton, of Aikin. The remains were brought to Sandy Creek and the funeral was held at the home of Mrs. E.W. Walch Tuesday, Rev. W,.W. Onderdonk officiating. Interment in Woodlawn cemetery.
