Ruby Dell (Makemson) Rowley (1898 - 1922)
"On Monday of last week at about 11 o'clock, Mrs. Monta Rowley of Centerville was so badly burned by an explosion of a five gallon can of kerosene which she was using to start a fire in her cook stove that she died at six o'clock that evening. All her clothing was burned off and her body was burned from head to foot. A two-year-old daughter ran out of the house when the explosion occurred and was but slightly burned. The dwelling belonged to Alvin Akers, and was entirely destroyed along with its contents. Mrs. Rowley was a daughter of Dan Makemson, of southeast of Mound City, and her body was brought to her old home Tuesday. The funeral service and internment took place Wednesday in Battlefield cemetery."
