"New Test Begun In Knox County
VINCENNES, Sept. 1 — (Special) J. E. Baxter, Vincennes oil operator, today began a test for oil in the McClosky sand on the Eliza and John Brevoort farm six miles south of Vincennes. The test is being drilled by Nelson Brothers of Princeton with cable tools.
The test is located about one quarter of a mile east of the producing field on the Illinois side of the Wabash river and within three quarters of a mile from another producing well drilled by Bauer in Knox county."

"Knox Farmland for $300,000
VINCENNES, March 18 — (Special) — John Brevoort, member of a pioneer Knox county family, announced today the sale of the Brevoort farm, south of here, to Bower Brothers, of Evansville.
The sale involved a cash consideration of $300,000.
The farm consists of 2.800 acres that formerly was Wabash river bottom land now protected by the levee system...
James Bower said that equipment now on the farm would be sold and the land rented for farming...
The Brevoort farm ties in closely with the agricultural history of Knox count and is recognized as the most fertile land in the county, it was said here tonight.
Will Brevoort, father of John, started to purchase land south of Vincennes in the late 1800's and was assisted by John in its management since 1892.
The father was the pioneer of scientific agriculture in Knox county and is credited with introducing alfalfa into the county and playing a great part in the introduction of sweet clover.
Will Brevoort also saw the possibility of levee protection for bottomlands and in 1890 constructed a four-mile section to protect his land from the Wabash.
As his holdings increased he instigated a move which resulted in the construction of more than 30 miles of levee on the Wabash and White rivers.
Those familiar with the project said here tonight the levees paid dividends, the land being flooded only three times in the last 30 years.
There are seven sets of tenant buildings on the farm.
Bower Brothers take full possession at once and the transaction includes all crops in the ground as well as mineral rights.
Mr. Brevoort, now 79, has closely supervised all operations since the death of his father and said advancing age resulted in his disposing of the farm."
