"Dr. Charles O. Probst, Ohio Health Work Leader, Is Dead
COLUMBUS, O., April 2 — (AP) — Dr. Charles Oliver Probst, 75, for many years a leading figure in health work in Ohio, died at his home here today of pneumonia.
Dr. Probst had been practicing medicine since 1882 and had been a superintendent of the Franklin County, Tuberculosis Sanatorium since 1928.
He was secretary of the State Board of Health for a number of years and was at the time of death a member of the State Health Council.
He was active in establishing the State Board of Health and was among the founders of the tuberculosis sanitarium at Mount Vernon.
He was born at Middleport, O., and was graduated from the Miami Medical College at Cincinnati in 1882.
Dr. Probst served fifteen years as professor (sic) of Hygiene at the former Starling Medical College, now a part of Ohio State University, and for ten years was secretary of the American Public Health Association.
He also served as president of the Ohio Society for the Prevention of Tuberculosis.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Association, the National Association for the Study and prevent of Tuberculosis, and the American Climatological and Clinical Association for the Sons of the American Revolution.
Surviving are the widow and two sons, Karl Probst of Toledo and Leighton Probst of San Francisco.
Funeral services will be held here tomorrow."

"Designer of Jeep Is Found Dead
DAYTON (AP)—Services will be held here tomorrow for Karl K. Probst, who in 1940 designed the Jeep. He will be buried in Columbus.
Probst died of an apparent overdose of sleeping pills. He was found dead at his Dayton home early Sunday. The 79-year old automotive engineer had been ill for several weeks.
Probst completed plans for the Jeep, which was to become famous as a military vehicle in World War II, in one week's work. He designed it for Bantam Car Co. of Butler, Pa.
In 1944 Willys-Overland the Ford Motor Co. disputed the Jeep's origins, but Federal Trade Commission decision ruled that Probst was the designer.
He was an Ohio State University graduate."
