Joseph W. Fleming (1871 - 1906)
"Prominent Oil Export Expert is Dead Joseph W. Fleming of Pennsylvania Dies on Kennedy Ranch East of Colorado Springs.
Joseph W. Fleming, a prominent eastern oil expert, died on William Kennedy's ranch, twenty miles east of Colorado Springs, late Saturday afternoon. He was 35 years of age and was well known in the Pennsylvania oil fields. Death was due to tuberculosis.
When oil was discovered just east of Colorado Springs a year ago, Mr. Kennedy and others owning land in that vicinity telegraphed east for an oil expert to come to Colorado and make an examination of the lands. Mr. Fleming, who was then at Butler, Pa., came west immediately and has conducted operations east of here for the last year. He has been successful in his work, having discovered a number of valuable oil tracts, and was preparing to bore a number of wells when he was taken ill a few days ago.
Mr. Fleming was accompanied here by his wife and children, who will accompany the remains back to Butler, Pa., today."
