person mentioned: Edward T. Nobles (After 1855 - )
event type: biography
event date: Jun. 1963
"Edward T. Nobles, a native of Pavilion who went west before the turn of the century, has lived long enough to become, in effect, the beneficiary of his own life insurance, beating acturial odds of 100,000 to 14.
Mr. Nobels has turned the trick by "outliving" the mortality tables in effect when he took out his policy with Mutual of New York in 1914...
Mr. Nobles is now a resident of Hamilton, Mont. where he lives with one of his four children, 57-year old Edward Nobles. The elder Mr. Nobles has three grand children and seven great grandchildren. He married the late Cornelia Ann Heddon Nobles, of Le Roy, on July 17, 1890...
Mr. Nobles is the son of the late James S. Nobles and Emerette L. Cheney Nobles. He studied in rural schools in Pavilion, at the Academy in Leroy, and at Eastman Business School in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Nobles spent two years running a grocery store and clothing store before going west in 1888. He spent the next 52 years in Skagit and Whatcom counties in Northwestern Washington state as a rancher, shingle manufacturer and merchant, moving to his present home in Hamilton in 1940. He was active in the family's clothing store in Hamilton until just two years ago.
He attributes his longevity to heredity, temperate habits and hard work."
