Mrs. Taylor was the mother of Cook Taylor and Captain Rowley P. Taylor, both deceased, and Mrs. James. G. Doty and Mrs. H.D.W. Gladding, who now resides in this village."

Corfu, Aug. 9 — The death of James L. Hills occurred at his residence In this village yesterday afternoon at about 1 o'clock. Mr. Hills was born in Brookfield, Madison county, N.Y., in 1812, lived a great many years near Akron, and moved to his residence in this village from his farm in Darien about four years ago. He leaves a widow and three children. The funeral services will probably be held form the residence at 2 p.m. tomorrow, conduction by the Rev. J.P. Hunt of Clarence."

"Death of Russell H. Annabal, an Old Resident of Bethany.
Russell H. Annabal, who had lived in the town of Bethany for about sixty years, died at 12 o'clock last night, aged 60(?) years. Mr. Annabal was a farmer, a valued citizen of Bethany, and one who was highly respected. He was born in Avon, but at an early age became a resident of Middlebury, subsequently moving to Bethany. About a year ago he left his farm and took up his residence in Linden, where his death occurred. He leaves a widow, one son and three daughters. The son is T.C. Annabal, a lawyer of Goodland, Ind., and the daughters are Mrs. Edgar Pixley of Bethany, Mrs. Charles Hart of Blue Island, Ill., and Mrs. Henry O. Bostwick of Batavia. The funeral will be held Sunday ay 3 o'clock."

"Thurman V. Annabal Dead.
A Native of Bethany Dies After a Brief Illness in Goodland, Ind.

News has been received in Batavia of the death in Goodland, Ind., of the Hon. Thurman C. Annabel, a native of Bethany, a son of Mrs. Russell H. Annabel, a brother of Mrs. Henry O. Bostwick of Batavia and a brother of Mrs. Edgar Pixley of Bethany. Mr. Annabal died yesterday after a brief illness, and he will be buried tomorrow at Logansport, Ind.
Mr. Annabal studied law with the late Rufus Robertson in Batavia and about thirty years ago went to Logansport, where he formed a partnership with Attorney Edwin Walker, also a native of Bethany, who now lives in Chicago and was counsel for the World's Fair Commissioners. When Mr. Walker removed in Chicago Mr. Annabal went to Goodland. Last year he was elected prosecuting attorney for four counties. He leaves a widow and one son, who is also a lawyer."

Hiram L. Ray of East Bethany died yesterday after an illness of about a year, from a complication of diseases, aged 65 years. He was born in Livonia and lived there until about a year ago, when he removed to Bethany. He is survived by one son, Elmer K., with whom he lived, and two brothers, John and Henry Ray of Michigan. The funeral will be held from the house at 2 p.m. tomorrow."

"Aged Resident's Death
Mrs. Lucinda Brown Annabal, widow of Russel H. Annabal, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. O. Bostwick of No. 428 East Main Street, at 5 p.m. yesterday from heart failure, aged 85 years.
Mrs. Annabal was a daughter of the late Daniel Brown, one of the earliest settlers of Bethany. She was born in that town and resided there until the death of her husband, about ten years ago, since which time she has lived with her daughters. Besides Mrs. Bostwick, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Edgar Pixley of Bethany, and one brother, Azro brown of Mason, Mich.
The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. Bostwick at 1 p.m. tomorrow and the interment will be at Bethany Center."

Amanda (Terrill) Cheney (1819 - 1901)


"Pioneer's Daughter.
Death of Mrs. Amanda Cheney, a Native of Pavilion, at the Age of 83 Years.

Pavilion, April 8 — Mrs. Amanda Cheney, widow of Edward Cheney of Union Corners, died at 10:30 a.m. yesterday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Grant Hutchinson, with whom she had lived a year. Her age was 82 years.
Mrs. Cheney was a daughter of Ezra Terrell, who settled at Union Corners in 1810. Mrs. Cheney was born there. Her aunt, Miss Laura Terrell, was the first schoolteacher in Pavilion, Mrs. Cheney was married in 18__ and for 65 years lived on one farm. She had but one daughter, who married James Nobles, and who died in 1872. Mrs. Cheney's nearest surviving relatives are her granddaughter, Mrs. Hutchinson, and a grandson, Edward C. Nobles of Washington State. On Washington's birthday this year, she sustained a shock of paralysis and had since sunk rapidly.
The funeral will be held from Mrs. Hutchinson's house at 1 p.m. tomorrow, the Rev. Mr. Palmet__r of Perry officiating. The burial will be in Maplewood cemetery at Union Corners."

"Death of Edgar Pixley
Father of the Sheriff died at his home in Bethany.
He was found Unconscious in Bed and Never Regained His Senses — Born on Farm Where He Died and Where He Spent All His Life — Nearly 74 Years Old.
Edgar Pixley, a lifelong resident of Bethany, died at his home, three miles south of East Bethany, at 6 o'clock last evening. He was stricken with apoplexy on Monday night, being found in an unconscious condition yesterday morning, and he never regained his senses.
Mr. Pixley was born on May 20, 1827, on the farm which was settled by his father, Elisha Pixley, and upon which he spent all his life. He survived his wife about a year, Mrs. Pixley having died on May 7, 1900. Mr. Pixley leaves one son, Sheriff Charles B. Pixley of Batavia; one daughter, Mrs. Charles B. Annabal of Bethany; three brothers, Lucius Pixley of Darien, George Pixley of Pavilion and Milo Pixley of Bradford, Pa., and one sister, Mrs. D. B. Merritt of Linden. He was a good citizen and hosts of friends will mourn his death.
The funeral will be held from the house at 2 p.m. on Friday."

The funeral will be held from the house at 2 p.m. tomorrow, the services to be conducted by the Rev. A. E. Brigden."

Mrs. Hills's age was 87 tears, 5 months and 2 days. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Hall of Akron; two sons, Henry J. Hills of Chicago, 111., and Byron E. Hills of Corfu, with whom she lived. and two brothers, Myron and Daniel Curdy of Michigan. The funeral will be held from the house in Akron tomorrow at 12:30 o'clock. The interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Corfu."

She is survived by two brothers, Dr. B. H. Hovey and Spencer Hovey of Rochester, the latter being a former Batavian, and Mrs. Blackmar of Le Roy. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the residence of Dr. Hovey, with whom Mrs. Gifford had lived sincer her husband's death in 1897."

Her Age was 87 Years Old and She Had Lived in Le Roy Fifty Years.
Le Roy, Aug. 2_ — Mrs. S. H. Blackmer, who for half a century had been a highly respected resident of this village, died at 6(?) o'clock yesterday morning at her home on South Street, after many months of ill health. Mrs. Blackmer was 87 years old last January. She came to this village from Wyoming. She was a consistent member of the Methodist church.
Mrs. Blackmer, whose husband has been dead many years, is survived by one daughter, Emma, of this village; two brothers, Dr. Hovey and Spencer Hovey of Rochester, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Josephine Sprague of Ohio and Louis Elyea of West Virginia. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the house. The Rev. F. S. Parkurst of the M.E. Church will officiate and the interment will be at Macpelah cemetery."

Driver and his Rig Blown into the Erie Canal.
Syracuse. Jan. 10. — Frank Mantel, aged 24, a Madison county farmhand, lost his life in the bed of the Erie canal, near Kirkville, yesterday afternoon in what doubtless was one of the strangest storm accidents on record in Onondaga County.
Driving home along the towpath when the wind was blowing at a 40-mile velocity and a blinding snow was beating down with a vengeance upon the open countryside, Mantel's bobsleigh, horses and all, was blown into the canal bed, and the young man with the equipage on top of him, was suffocated in the snow."

Mrs. Martha Cheney died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jessie Ralyea, in the town of Alexander, at 12:55 o'clock this morning. She had been in poor health for ten years, but the immediate cause of her death was pleuro-pneumonia.
Mrs. Cheney was born April 4, 1849. She was the widow of Galen E.Cheney. Most of their married life was spent at Machias. For the past eight years Mrs. Cheney had made her home either with her daughter, Mrs. Ralyea of Alexander, or with her son, Burton Cheney of Machias. Besides these two children, she leaves a son Austin of Batavia and two daughters, Mrs. Frank Kelsey of Olean and Mrs. Edward L. Betts of Oakland, Calif., also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held from the home of Mrs. Ralyea on Thuraday. The burial will take place beside the remains of her husband in the Yorkshire Cemetery at Yorkshire, Cattaraugus county."

Childs of Williamsville; a brother, Harry J. Childs of Painted Post, and four grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Allen H. Childs and Mrs. Mildred Walker.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Adrian Ross Funeral Home, 32 Johns St. Burial will be in Evergreen lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home."

Harry J. Childs, 67, president of Painted Post Press, Inc., died in his Painted Post home Saturday (May 24, 1958).
Mr. Childs was born and educated in Akron. He received his first printing experience on the weekly Akron News, which was owned by his father, the late James Childs.
Mr. Childs is survived by sons, Seward, Robert, William, Donald and John Childs; three daughters, Mrs. Vida Gruver of Corning, Mrs. Jean Welty of Weaverville, Calif., and Mrs. Janice Snyder of Painted Post, and a sister, Mrs. Francis C. Wilder of Williamsville.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Painted Post Presbyterian Church."
