Amasa Hills (1810 - 1885)

"OBITUARY. AMASA HILLS.
Mr. Amasa Hills died of heart disease on Saturday, Nov. 14, at his in North Brookfield. For a long time he has been in feeble health and for the last few weeks has been nearly blind and unable to leave his room. Mr. Hills was one of our oldest inhabitants, having always resided at his late home, two and one-half miles south of this village. He was a man highly respected by his neighbors and in his death the community experiences a loss which will be greatly felt. He reached the advanced aged of seventy-four years and nine months. He was one of a family of fourteen children, the only one who remained in the neighborhood in which he was born. The other children settled in different portions of the country, Michigan, Utah, California and other places. Mr. Hills' prevailing characteristic might be described by the phrase, "peace and good will towards all." He was a member of the M.E. church of East Hamilton, was an earnest Christian and died firm in his belief in the Saviour and in the reality of the after(.) He leaves a widow and two children, Mr. H.I. Hills of Hamilton, and Mrs. R. Bennett of North Brookfield, to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and kind father. His funeral was held at his late home on Monday and he was buried in North Brookfield cemetery."

Berintha (Babcock) Rogers (1853 - 1912)

"Mrs. James Rogers, after a long period of suffering, from a cancerous disease, passed away quietly at her home in the early morning of Oct. 24th. She had been steadily weakened by progress of her illness but she bore her sufferings with patient resignation and entire preparation for the last great change. In this community her quiet life and labors have not gone without reverence and honor and those who mourn for her the most will be joined in their sorrow by the tributes of the friends of many years. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Babcock, were among the old-time neighbors of our sister village. Many years ago Mrs. Rogers became the wife of our esteemed citizen, James Rogers, whose death she has survived for a few years and she proved a helpful companion in the happy life they passed upon the farm. She took a quiet but effective part in religious matters and in her relations with the M.E. church of which she was a member, Mrs. Rogers has consistently shown forth in her good deeds the sincere interest in its welfare that identified he with its best works and purposes. She is survived by her son, Dennison W. Rogers, two brothers, Dr. Albert Babcock of Chicago, and Osmer J. Babcock of Brookfield, and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Butterbaugh of Denver, Col., Mrs. Edwin Fish of Lebanon and Mrs. Lorene Clarke of Clinton. Funeral services were held at her home Thursday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. C.M. Fulton, and attended by many of the neighbors who had learned to love her truly.
