(Lola A. Carr, Reporter.)
Kennedy, June 14. Friends of Miss Bessie Rowley in this vicinity will be interested to know that on May 12 she became the bride of Lieut. Russell Hayes of Indianapolis at Langres, France. Chaplain Argus performed the ceremony at 8 pm. The ring service was used. The bride was dressed in a white uniform with Red Cross cape, and the groom was in full uniform with spurs and sword. The Red Cross hut was beautifully decorated and the bridal party passed down an aisle formed by two chains of flowers held by 12 nurses. The ceremony took place between a fireplace banked with flowers and beneath a huge bell made of flowers and foliage.
The bride was attended by four bridesmaids and one matron of honor. Colonel Harty the commanding officer gave the bride away. Miss McCartney sang, O Promise Me and the colored orchestra played the wedding march. Following the ceremony a wedding luncheon was served at which the bride cut the cake with her husband's sword. They spent four days in touring by auto before embarkation for home."
