"A Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Wednesday evening a party of friends and relatives drove to the farm house of W. H. Mantle, on the Ridge Road, to surprise them on the 50th anniversary of their wedding.
The venerable couple have lived on the farm where they now reside for upwards of 25 years. Before that they lived near the Stears farm on the Creek road. Both have always lived in this section. Mrs. Mantle's maiden name was Pamelia Gillette, she being like her husband, a native of this country. Her husband is now 73, while she is nearly 70, but the years have dealt lightly with them and they royally entertained the visitors.
They have several children living. Byron Mantle resides in California. Mrs. E. G. Adams lives on Stone Street, and W. W. Mantle live on a farm near Rodman. Mrs. C. E. Ayers lives in this city, and Miss Chloe D. Mantle is a resident of Columbia, S. C. Miss Vannie Mantle lives at the home of her parents."
