Jay Warren Larson (1926 - 2002)
"Jay Warren Larson, 76, died suddenly October 20, 2002 of heart failure in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born August 18, 1926 in Safford, Arizona, the third child of Silas Larson and Clara Maude Allred Larson. He attended and graduated from schools in Pima, Arizona with one year at North High School in Phoenix, AZ. In 1947, he married Laura Jean Rowley from Safford, Arizona. They were later sealed in the Arizona Temple. They moved to Phoenix in 1952, and were the parents of one daughter and two sons.
In March of 1943, he joined the Navy and was assigned as a member of the Armed Guard (Navy personnel who manned guns on Merchant Marine ships.) He served for two years until World War II ended.
He worked at several different occupations during his life. He was a deputy sheriff for Graham County in Arizona. He sold real estate. He retired with 20 years of service from the Phoenix Police Department. He was an agent for State Farm Insurance. He also worked as an L.D.S. Church custodian for nine years, then retired again.
In 1980, they moved to Sandy, Utah where he served as the High Priest group leader and as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple for six years.
He is survived by his children; daughter Janet (Steven) Dansie of Riverton, Utah; son John of Scottsdale, Arizona; and son Kent (Melanie) of Sacramento, California; 11 wonderful grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter. Jay is also survived by his much loved sister, Kathryn Cohn of Pima, Arizona; three sisters-in-law, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura, his parents, and his brothers Herman and Farrell.
Services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, October 26, 2002 at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 So., Sandy, Utah where friends and family may call one hour prior to the services."
