Sarah Abagail (Hodge) Rowley (1841 - 1915)
"A Pioneer Woman Gone
As was mentioned last week in The Reporter, Mrs. A.J. Rowley died at her home in Meadow township, Monday morning, May 17.
Sarah Abagail Hodge was born in Vermont, January 24, 1841, and died at her home near this city May 17, 1915.
About six weeks after she was born her mother died, and later her father moved to Wautoma, Wisconsin, where she grew to womanhood, and where in 1856 she was united in marriage to Andrew J. Rowley. In 1869 these good people moved to Clay county and took a homestead in Meadow township, and this place has been her home ever since. Mr. Rowley died about ten years ago. To them were born two children, Mrs. Addie Rowley Austin, who died in December, 1907, and Mrs. Chas. M. Walters of Meadow township.
Mrs. Rowley was a kind and helpful neighbor, and will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the home, the services being conducted by Rev. O.M. Bond, pastor of Grace M.E. church of this city and the interment was in Riverside cemetery."
