Emma Gene (Gillett) Wagner (1859 - 1925)
"OBITUARY
Emma Gene Gillett
Emma Gene Gillett, youngest daughter of Matthew and Dorothy V. Gillette, was born in Wellington, O., Dec. 28, 1859; departed this life near the place of her birth July 12, 1925, aged 65 years, 6 months, 14 days.
She was united in marriage to Charles Wagner, May 3, 1882, to which union were born 4 children, one son and three daughters, all of whom survive: the son, Austin, living at home, Mrs. Harold Rowley and Mrs. Ford Biggs, who live in Elyria, and Mrs. Fred Lorence, living in Wellington.
Mrs. Wagner was one of those women who loved her home and family, ever seeking to make it such that it would be regarded as the most sacred place to which they could come conscious of the joy which can come only to those who realize that parental affection which is never more fully demonstrated than by the fondness of a kind mother.
The children's return was always looked forward to with the most earnest anticipation by her and the hours pent together, always a great delight. Her hands seldom grew weary ministering to others and her highest joy was realized when rendering service for some one.
She had not been in good health for several years but only recently was her condition regarded as serious; the last few months she rapidly declined in health and on Sabbath, July 12, she was released from her sufferings and the spirit took its flight to the realms beyond.
She leaves to mourn her departure, a most devoted husband, her four children, six grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Hermon Brooks, of Oberlin, and one brother, Bird Gillett, of Wellington.
Aside from the immediate relatives many other relatives, friends and neighbors came to pay tribute to the memory of her whom they knew and loved because of the kindly spirit always manifest and the willing service which she gladly rendered to those in need.
Funeral services were conducted from the home at 2 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. T. H. Jerr, of the Methodist Episcopal church. Internment in Greendwood cemetery."

"Charles Wagner Taken By Death:
Beloved Owner of Once Popular Grove Dies at 85 Charles Wagner, retired Wellington twp farmer known throughout the county as the kind, old gentlemen who owned and operated Wagner's Grove a mile north and west of Wellington, was claimed by death later Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Lorence on Magyar-st. He was 84 years of age and had been ill only a short time.
Mr. Wagner came to Wellington 49 years ago from Brownhelm Station in the north part of the county. He was a member of the Reformed church of that place.
Charlemont creek passed thru his farm and a ravine with a spring afforded an ideal spot for a picnic grove until the creek became polluted with sewage. The grove was popular for several years and brought much satisfaction to its proprietor who loved to see the town and city people fill it and enjoy it. Later, it could no longer be used, for this purpose, he was heart broken... his desire to make people happy had been foiled.
Left to mourn the kindly park owner are a sister, Mrs. George Wohleveer, Brownhelm Station; a son, Austin, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Rowley and Mrs. Ford Briggs, both of Elyria, and Mrs. Lorence, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Final rites will be conducted Saturday by Keith Andrews starting at 2 o'cloclk from the Lorence home. Dr. C. W. Recard will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood."

"Death Summons One of County's Best Known Farmers
WELLINGTON — Charles Wagner, 83, a native of Brownhelm and for 49 years a farmer here, died last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Lorence, Magyar Street.*
He maintained Wagner's Grove in connection with his farm just north of town. The picnic grounds, open free to the public, for many years attracted family gatherings from throughout this section of the state.
Yesterday was the 13th anniversary of the death of Mrs. Wagner, the former Emma Gillette, a native of Wellington. Since her death the decedent and his son, Austin, maintained the home and operated the farm.
Although he was then past 75 years of age, Wagner attracted considerable attention a few years ago, by constructing a large barn single-handed to replace the barn demolished by a tornado. The barn stands as a monument to his carpenter craftsmanship. Died in His Sleep
After his 80th birthday his eyesight started to fail and he was bothered by rheumatism. He continued to operate but diminished the acreage of his farm but continued to farm until a few weeks ago when he was taken to his bed. Later he was removed to the home of his daughter. The entire family was nearby when death came peacefully in a sleep.
The surviving children are Austin at home, Mrs. Harold Rowley of near Elyria, Mrs. Ford Briggs of near Elyria, and Mrs. Fred Lorence, Wellington.
He was the son of Burkhart and Catherine Wagner. Two brothers, Peter Wagner, Ogden, Ill. and Henry Wagner, Brownhelm, preceded him in death. A sister, Mrs. George Wohlever, Brownhelm, survives.
He is the uncle of Mrs. Robert Leimbach and Mrs. Edward Lescher of Brownhelm, Mrs. Fred Will and Mrs. Charles Krapp of Vermilion, Mrs. Louis Bruns of Huron and Mrs. Otto K. Mischka of Elyria.
Funeral services in charge of the Andrews Funeral Home, Wellington, will be Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Lorence home on Magyar street with interment in the Wellington cemetery. Rev. Recard will officiate."
